Project Overview

A Birmingham-based professional services firm relocated their headquarters to a newly refurbished four-floor building in the city's historic Jewellery Quarter. The client required a single contractor to design and deliver the complete technology fit-out — from structured cabling and wireless networking through to AV integration, KNX building automation, access control, and all fit-out electrical works.

PT Services UK was appointed as the sole technology integrator, working directly with the main contractor and the client's IT team to deliver a fully coordinated, fully documented technology infrastructure within a 14-week programme.

The project required close coordination between five disciplines — structured cabling, AV, KNX automation, access control, and electrical — all of which were designed, installed, and commissioned by our own engineers with no subcontracting of any scope.

Scope 01: Structured Cabling & Network Infrastructure

We designed and installed a full Cat6A structured cabling infrastructure across all four floors of the building, supporting 180 workstation drops, 24 wireless access points, and 6 server room patch panels. All cabling was installed in concealed containment, with colour-coded patch panels and full end-to-end test certification to TIA-568 and ISO/IEC 11801 standards.

  • Cat6A horizontal cabling — 180 data points
  • 6 × 48-port patch panels with colour-coded labelling
  • Cisco Catalyst 9200 series switching stack
  • Ubiquiti UniFi U6 Pro wireless access points (24 units)
  • Full Fluke DTX certification on all links
  • Structured cabling as-built drawings and O&M manual

Scope 02: AV Integration — Boardroom & Meeting Rooms

The client required a flagship boardroom capable of hosting hybrid meetings for up to 24 people, plus 8 smaller meeting rooms each equipped for video conferencing. We designed and installed a complete AV solution using Crestron control, Samsung commercial displays, and Shure Microflex Advance ceiling microphone arrays — all integrated with Microsoft Teams Rooms for seamless hybrid collaboration.

  • Crestron DM NVX AV-over-IP distribution system
  • Samsung QM series 98" display — main boardroom
  • Shure MXA910 ceiling microphone arrays
  • Crestron TSW-1070 10" touch panel controllers
  • Microsoft Teams Rooms certified configuration
  • 8 × meeting rooms with 65" displays and Teams Rooms kits

Scope 03: KNX Building Automation — Lighting & Climate

To deliver the client's sustainability and comfort targets, we designed and commissioned a full KNX building automation system covering all lighting circuits, HVAC zone control, and blind/shading actuators across all four floors. The KNX system integrates with the building's BMS via KNX IP routing, providing centralised energy monitoring and scene-based control from both wall-mounted touch panels and a web-based management interface.

  • KNX IP backbone with ABB i-bus switches
  • DALI lighting control — 240 addressable circuits
  • KNX HVAC zone control — 32 zones
  • KNX blind/shading actuators — all perimeter offices
  • Gira G1 touch panels — 12 units throughout
  • KNX/BMS integration via IP routing gateway

Scope 04: Access Control & Security

We installed a comprehensive access control system using Paxton Net2 across all 34 controlled access points in the building, including main entrance, floor-by-floor lift lobbies, server room, and individual office suites. The system integrates with the client's HR platform for automatic credential provisioning and de-provisioning, and provides full audit trail reporting for compliance purposes.

  • Paxton Net2 Pro access control — 34 doors
  • Paxton proximity readers and MIFARE credentials
  • Magnetic locks and electric strikes throughout
  • Video intercom — main entrance and reception
  • HR system integration for credential management
  • Full audit trail and compliance reporting

Scope 05: Electrical Installation

The base build electrical installation was carried out by the main contractor, but PT Services UK was appointed to design and install the fit-out electrical works — including all power distribution to workstations, server room UPS and PDU installation, emergency lighting, and the final connection of all AV, IT, and KNX equipment. All electrical works were carried out to BS 7671:2018 and certified by our NICEIC-accredited engineers.

  • Fit-out power distribution — 180 workstation positions
  • Server room UPS (APC Smart-UPS 5000VA) and PDU installation
  • Emergency lighting design and installation (BS 5266)
  • Final connection of all AV, IT, and KNX systems
  • NICEIC electrical installation certificate
  • Full electrical as-built drawings

Floors integrated under one platform

"PT Services UK delivered everything we needed under one roof — from the first cable to the final KNX commissioning. Having a single integrator accountable for all five disciplines made the project significantly smoother than anything we had experienced before. The building is now a genuinely smart workspace."
