Project Overview
Birmingham Central Mosque is one of the largest and most significant mosques in the United Kingdom, serving a congregation of tens of thousands across the West Midlands. The Grand Annexe project represented a major expansion of the mosque's facilities, adding new prayer spaces, ablution areas, event halls, and administrative offices.
PT Services UK Limited was appointed as the single-point technology integration contractor, responsible for delivering five distinct but interconnected disciplines: complete electrical installation, enterprise WiFi network, Dante audio system, interior and exterior lighting design, and the design and manufacture of a bespoke centrepiece chandelier for the entrance atrium.
The project demanded a level of cultural sensitivity and aesthetic care that goes beyond standard commercial integration work. Every technical decision was made with the spiritual purpose of the building in mind — from the warmth of the lighting colour temperature to the clarity of the audio system's speech intelligibility.
Complete Electrical Installation
Full M&E from first fix to commissioning
PT Services UK Limited delivered the complete electrical installation for the Birmingham Central Mosque Annexe from first fix through to final commissioning. This encompassed the design and installation of the main distribution boards, sub-distribution boards, all containment and cabling, power circuits for all mechanical and electrical plant, emergency lighting, fire alarm integration, and final certification to BS 7671 18th Edition. Every circuit was designed with the building's long-term operational requirements in mind, ensuring capacity for future expansion.

UniFi Enterprise WiFi Network
Ubiquiti UniFi — seamless coverage throughout
The annexe required reliable, high-density WiFi coverage for worshippers, administrative staff, and event attendees across all floors and spaces. PT Services UK designed and deployed a full Ubiquiti UniFi enterprise wireless network, with ceiling-mounted access points positioned to deliver seamless coverage with no dead zones. The network was designed to handle the high-density congregation periods during Friday prayers and Ramadan, when hundreds of simultaneous connections are typical. A UniFi Dream Machine Pro controller provides centralised management, guest network segmentation, and real-time monitoring.

Dante Audio System — Adam Hall Group
IP audio distribution via Dante protocol
The annexe required a professional-grade audio system capable of delivering clear, intelligible speech reinforcement for the call to prayer, Imam addresses, and community events — across a complex multi-room, multi-level building. PT Services UK specified and installed a full Dante audio-over-IP system using Adam Hall Group products, including LD Systems loudspeakers and Cameo amplification. Dante networking eliminates traditional analogue audio cabling, routing all audio signals over the existing IP network infrastructure with sample-accurate synchronisation. The system supports multiple independent audio zones, allowing different content to be delivered to different areas simultaneously.

Interior & Exterior Lighting Design
Architectural lighting — form, function, and reverence
Lighting a place of worship demands a sensitivity that goes beyond technical competence. PT Services UK designed and implemented a complete interior and exterior lighting scheme for the annexe, working closely with the mosque's trustees to understand the spiritual and aesthetic requirements of each space. Interior lighting combines warm LED downlighting in prayer areas with accent lighting to highlight architectural features, creating an atmosphere of calm and reverence. Exterior lighting was designed to showcase the annexe's Islamic architectural language after dark, with uplighting on the arches and facade that makes the building a landmark in the surrounding community.

Bespoke Entrance Chandelier
Custom-designed and manufactured centrepiece
The crowning achievement of the annexe project was the design and manufacture of a bespoke centrepiece chandelier for the main entrance atrium. PT Services UK worked with specialist lighting manufacturers to create a one-of-a-kind piece that reflects the Islamic geometric tradition while incorporating contemporary LED technology. The chandelier was designed from first principles — beginning with the architectural proportions of the atrium, the desired light output, and the visual language of the mosque — and then developed through detailed CAD drawings and physical prototypes before final manufacture. The finished piece serves as both a functional light source and a statement of craftsmanship that greets every visitor entering the annexe.

Professional IP audio distribution across all zones
The Dante audio system represents one of the most technically sophisticated elements of the project. By routing all audio over the existing IP network infrastructure, we eliminated hundreds of metres of traditional analogue cabling while delivering superior audio quality and flexibility.
Adam Hall Group's LD Systems product range was specified for its combination of professional audio performance, Dante compatibility, and value. The system supports the call to prayer, Imam addresses, background recitation, and public address across all areas of the annexe — with each zone independently controllable.
